Q&A with Clayton Brann

A chat with skateboarder, rapper and model Clayton Brann

When did you first come in to contact with skateboarding?
The first time I came in to contact with a skateboard was 4 th grade, I was about 10 years old and started sneaking out with my homies on the weekend at night and skating downtown.

What’s your favourite skate trick?
My favourite trick is a nollie inward heelflip.

Name a skateboarder that inspires you?
A skateboarder that inspires me is Zion Wright, he’s one of the most free, illest black skaters I’ve ever seen in my life.

Where is your favourite place to skate?
One of my favourite places to skate is either Venice skatepark or honestly just freestyle skating new spots I’ve never been with the homies, there is literally nothing like it

If you could master one trick that you haven’t yet already, which would it be and why?
It would probably be a 360 mctwist or something insane, I really love the idea of just hanging in the air like your flying forever and making things that almost look impossible easy. It’s mad dope!

Favourite music to listen to while skating?
I really love to listen to Skate 2 playlist or hard hip hop, sometimes even punk rock. It depends on the type of day I’m having really.

How would you describe the relationship between music and skateboarding in your life?
The relationship I having with skating and music is kind of the same. I hold them both very close to my heart and wouldn’t be the same without either one of them. I need both of them to survive, I’ve noticed without both of these things I get super upset, depressed and also just irritated way easier. So, I wake up early every day to skate and jam music 24/7. It’s almost like breathing at this point – it’s part of me.

Can you remember the first album you bought?
The first album I ever personally bought was Lil Wayne’s ‘I Am Not A Human Being’. My parents burned it after reading the lyrics but it was totally worth it that, album changed my life!

Favourite song/album?
My favourite song right now is difficult, I can’t pick one there’s to many vibes, but my favourite album ever is ‘Camp’ by Childish Gambino. It showed me it was OK to be 100% myself and to be confident in who I am as an individual, it honestly changed my outlook on myself and truly help me mould my authenticity.
